Chapter Seven
Greyson groaned and pressed his thumbs into his eyes, rubbing at them. They ached. They felt gritty as if he had sand in them. Considering he'd been going through the files they'd found in the briefcase for the last several hours, that made sense.
He was almost asleep on his feet, so to speak. He was sitting. Asleep on his ass just didn't have the same ring to it, even if it was true.
Fagan patted his shoulder. "You should go lay down for a little while."
"I can't. I have to find something that can lead us to whoever took Davan."
"I know this is important to you, Greyson, but you're so tired, you could miss something. Just go lay down for an hour or so. I'll wake you up if we find anything."
The others had been searching just as hard as he had. Dominic was carefully going through every bit of data he could drag off of the computer disks. Jaggar and Beck were helping Greyson go through the files. Talon was babysitting their prisoner. And Fagan was keeping them all fed.
"I'm good."
He wasn't, but he was willing to lie about it.
"Greyson, you didn't shift until a few hours ago," Beck said. "You're still recovering from that gunshot wound. Go get some rest like Fagan suggested. You're not going to be any use to Davan if you pass out."
Greyson let out a long, suffering groan before slapping the file down on the table and climbing to his feet. "Wake me in an hour."
"Two," Beck said. "Get two hours of sleep and I won't say another word."
"Fine, two hours, but not a second longer."
Beck nodded. "We'll wake you up in two hours."
"Or if you find anything."
Beck grimaced. "Agreed."
As he walked away, Greyson admitted to himself that it was probably a good idea for him to get some rest. He'd shifted as soon as they got home, but his side was still tender. Food and a shower had helped, but some rest would do a much better job of spurring on the healing process.
It was just hard for him to rest when Davan was out there somewhere, being forced to do things he didn't want to do. Every time Greyson thought about what Davan might be forced to do, he got sick to his stomach.
Once he reached his room, Greyson made a quick trip to the bathroom then walked back into his room and sat down on the side of the bed. He kicked off his shoes then rolled over onto his stomach, stretching out across the mattress.
The sigh that left him as he settled into the bed was heavy, tired, and maybe a little needy. He grabbed one of his pillows and pulled it under his head, holding it in place with his arms. He closed his eyes and hoped he was able to dream again.
The last one had been astonishing.
